Curriculum - Modern Foreign Languages

Modern Foreign Languages
Our vision for Modern Foreign Languages at Marlborough is to develop communicative skills and to encourage intercultural knowledge and understanding. Seeking to open children’s minds to different cultures, while nurturing a life-long passion and curiosity for languages and to consolidate the skills for future language learning.
By the time children leave Marlborough, they will have been introduced to another language in an enjoyable and fun way and will have developed skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing, as well as asking and answering questions in Spanish. Children will have developed confidence and have had their creativity and curiosity about language stimulated, while reinforcing and expanding knowledge and understanding of their own language, including elements of grammar. Learning another language will help our children develop their awareness of cultural differences and similarities in other countries and cultures. It will have started the development of the foundations for language learning in Key Stage 3 and beyond.
