Reception/Year 1 - R/1P

Welcome to Our Mixed Reception/Year 1!

Welcome back! We hope you all had a lovely and relaxed Easter break and that all children are ready to restart their hard work.

This half term, we will carry out a minibeast safari! Magnifying glasses clutched firmly in hands, we’ll look under logs, leaves and stones for creatures that wriggle, crawl or fly. We’ll find out about minibeast habitats, features and colours. To get to know these creepy crawlies better, we’ll make and monitor minibeast hotel and a butterfly garden. Children will particularly explore the cycle of the butterfly by having their own caterpillar to look after! Shh... it is a surprise.

Have a great term.

Spring Term

We are lucky enough to have a large classroom with access to a beautiful and spacious outdoor area which the children can access freely during their independent learning time.

In Reception, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and we learn through purposeful play while developing the Characteristics of Effective Learning.

In Year 1, we follow the National Curriculum, ensuring ‘foundation subjects’ are taught following the EYFS ethos, as we feel more formal methods of teaching are not suitable for our pupils when they initially move from the EYFS into KS1.
