Maple Class (Year 1/Year 2)
This half term, we will continue with our walk outdoors to find out about different types of weather and to look for signs of the seasons. This fun cross curricular project links previous term’s knowledge and help us increase awareness about environmental issues while keeping our children engaged.
Children will also develop thinking skills when experimenting with thermometers, investigating the effects of the Sun and comparing weather around the world.
Maple Class Termly Newsletter
Summer 1 2022
Starts 25th April – Ends 27th May
We hope you had a fabulous Easter holiday!
This newsletter will include information about our learning this term as well as a reminder of our routines.
Our learning this term…
Our new topic this term is Splendid Skies
This topic will develop children’s knowledge of weather and the seasons. Children will observe, identify and measure features of the weather, both everyday and extreme
To support this topic, we will be watching and reading weather reports. The children will then prepare and present their own weather reports.
We will also be reading the story ‘Oi Frog’ to inspire the children to write their own rhyming stories.
We will be continuing with some Continuous and Enhanced Provision in the afternoon, which means that your child will be able to make some learning choices for themselves.
Important Information
Home reading – We ask that you write a comment in your child’s reading record each time they have read, and ensure that this is brought into school with their book every day. This is important as we will change these when needed rather than on a set day. Once they have filled a page in their record, they will earn extra Dojos with our home reading challenge (Dojos = prizes!).
Phonics – please keep checking Dojo and Oxford Owl for phonics homework tasks. This will be very helpful to your child when reading and writing in school.
Forest School Thursday- Each Thursday afternoon we will continue to do Outdoor Learning. On this day children are required to come to school in appropriate clothing. This includes old, warm clothes that they are able to get muddy and a waterproof coat. They will also need wellington boots which can be kept in school.
PE – Our PE day will continue to be Monday. Your child should arrive in their PE kit. They can wear trainers and a tracksuit or jogging bottoms and a sweatshirt in order to be warm on colder days.
Homework – Homework learning tasks will be sent on Dojo to support your child’s Topic learning. Links to phonic videos, which you can watch with your children at home, will also be posted on dojo messages. We will also send home copies of the book- that your child will be reading in phonics – please listen to your child read this at home (this will also be sent as an eBook where possible). These need to be returned to school when your child starts the next Read, Write Inc phonic book.
Thank you again for your support.
If you have any questions, please speak to one of us at the end of the day at Maple entrance or send a message on Class Dojo.
